Instagram has launched another round of updates to Edits, allowing it to compete even more with TikTok's CapCut. Edits aim to give creators access to professional-looking tools to make their short-form videos stand out, and now, it does that and even more. The most recent updates include three more transitions, improved sensitivity when moving the editing handles, and a universal volume control. More than that, though, these updates reaffirm Instagram's commitment to creators by providing them with content creation tools that make the video editing process easier, while granting them even more creative freedom. Compared to the previous updates, this installment is significantly more valuable, especially for creators who need to upload daily.

More Transitions, Sharper Controls, and Better Sound Management
Notable among the new features are the new transition effects (including “Zoom Ripple” and “Vertical Stretch”), bringing the total to 35. The neat thing about transitions is that they allow for more gradual scene changes, keeping people watching and informally engaged with your content. Not to be outdone by the visual components, Instagram also launched track handle sensitivity, allowing creators to achieve frame-perfect edits. Regardless of your skill level, this new control will make it easier to trim clips without interfering with the continuity of your edit. But, most excitingly, the new “Apply All Volume” option stands above the rest. Rather than having to worry about the level of sound on each clip, you now only have to do it once, which means bad audio fluctuations from one sound level to another shouldn’t take viewers out of the video.
Instagram's Steady March Toward Dominating the Video Editing Space
Together, these updates form part of a broader initiative for Instagram to transition the Edits app into a more complete, comprehensive creative hub. However, although the app is currently free, Adam Mosseri, Instagram's Head, has hinted that when/if future AI-powered features are introduced, they may likely include a subscription option, due to the increased processing power they would require. Again, unlike the current free tools, the coming features would be more sophisticated and powerful. However, as the app's features continue to expand, there is a good chance that many content creators will consider paying for a subscription if they believe it would provide immediate value. Having a powerful and simple mobile video editor has real value in today's content-dominated world.
