Instagram is likely planning to launch a feature that is going to supplement the already exciting Notes feature in the app. The application is purportedly testing a new feature that enables users to personalize their Notes as well as select a custom background color and emoji icon for the feature. Though it is possibly not in its advanced stages, it is shown to be another attempt by Instagram to lure and engage its users, mostly targeting the younger audience that has already had a penchant for the Notes feature for informal interactions.

A Fresh Layer of Customization for the Notes Feature

This new customization option is as simple as it is effective. It allows users to choose how their Notes appear to others for different shades and emojis that best reflect their mood or message. According to Instagram's internal description, users will be able to design a stylized Note, and others can reuse that same design template, without crediting the original creator. On the flip side, this offers a broader community-sharing feature that enables creativity while keeping the interface clean and minimal. Although Instagram has previously introduced themed color Notes for specific celebrations, this feature would expand the function beyond limited-time campaigns and make it part of everyday interactions.

Still in the Prototype Phase, Yet Promising for Future Engagement

Nevertheless, it’s important to note that this customization tool remains an internal prototype. Instagram has stated that there are currently no immediate plans to test the feature with actual users. Regardless, the company’s ongoing experimentation signals its intent to evolve the Notes feature. After all, Instagram has seen increased interaction in direct messages, which is where Notes are primarily used. While Notes have been removed from more public areas like Reels and feed posts, they remain a core tool for direct and casual engagement, especially among Gen Z users. Therefore, even if this customization doesn’t launch soon, the trend leans toward richer, more interactive messaging features within the app.
