Reddit's October 31 cutoff for new requests to use its public Data API has arrived. Under the company's published migration schedule, new projects are directed toward its Developer Platform, while existing apps and bots face later stages of the transition in 2027.

The milestone comes from a timetable announced in September and repeated in Reddit's October 8 changelog. It is not a fresh announcement that every existing integration has stopped working. The schedule separates new-access applications from the retirement of access already granted.
Three stages affect different developers
The official migration timeline names October 31 for the end of new public API requests. Access removal for apps and users that have not registered or responded to Reddit's outreach is due to begin on January 12, 2027. Remaining public API access is scheduled to close in March.
November 30 has a narrower purpose: it is the registration deadline for consideration under the migration bounty program. Registering an existing app for that program should not be confused with applying for a fresh legacy API connection after the October cutoff.
Moving a community tool means more than changing a key
Reddit's Devvit migration guide describes a platform with custom menu actions, interactive posts, event triggers and Reddit-hosted storage. That changes where a tool runs and how it fits into a community. An owner needs to check the bot's actual jobs, dependencies and missing capabilities before treating a port as complete.
For moderators, the useful first distinction is between a tool they maintain and one somebody else operates. Reddit asks communities to report essential apps whose maintainer is unknown. A feed preference cannot replace an automated moderation task.
The transition concerns software supporting Reddit communities. It runs alongside the separate For You and Following feed rollout and advertiser planning tools, which change what users and marketers see inside the service.
