A creator can already see how a Reel performed. The harder part is deciding what that collection of numbers means for the next video. Meta is bringing an AI assistant to its Edits app to tackle that question, using a creator's own Instagram activity as the starting point for suggestions.

From metrics to a conversation

The assistant is designed to combine follows, views, watch retention, likes and shares with comments and current trends. Instead of opening several analytics screens, a creator can ask a question inside Edits and get an explanation of patterns in their account. Meta presents the tool as a creative partner, but the final choice of subject, footage and editing still belongs to the person making the video.

That difference matters. A suggestion based on an account's past performance may be more useful than a generic prompt, yet repeating only what has worked before could also make a feed predictable. A sensible workflow is to treat the assistant's answer as a hypothesis, then test it against the creator's own judgment and audience response.

What changes inside Edits?

The new assistant adds a conversational layer to an app that has been expanding its editing toolkit. We covered earlier precision tools in Edits and another wave of video creation features. This update is less about adding a transition and more about helping creators decide which story is worth cutting in the first place.

A useful tool, with a clear limit

Creators should pay attention to what the assistant can actually see. It can analyze Instagram signals tied to an account; it cannot know why an off-platform audience saved a clip or what a creator plans to film next week. A good video idea still needs a point of view, a strong opening and a reason to keep watching.

For teams that keep copies of their own published work for review, a reliable video download workflow can help compare old edits with new ones. That is separate from Meta's recommendation feature, and creators should respect platform rules and others' rights when saving media.

The most interesting test will be whether Edits helps creators find a genuinely better idea, not merely a more familiar version of their last successful Reel. Meta's creator announcement sets out the feature; results will depend on how thoughtfully people use it.
