X has refreshed its video composer with a cleaner layout and more control over captions. An update shared by X developer Allegra Jacchia, reported by Social Media Today, shows a workflow in which creators can edit caption text and use Grok to correct or translate it. The change puts a routine but important publishing job closer to the video itself: checking what viewers will read before the clip goes out.

Caption editing moves into the upload workflow

The demonstrated editor lets users revise captions manually, while Grok offers assistance with corrections and translation. This is a composer update, not a reason to assume that every account, device or language has identical access. The announcement does not establish a universal availability timetable.

Automation still needs a final read

A caption can be grammatically tidy and still misidentify a person, place or product. Before publishing, it is worth checking names, numbers and any phrase that changes the speaker's meaning. Translated captions deserve the same attention. An automated suggestion should be treated as something to review, not as independent confirmation of what was said.

Captioning also serves an accessibility purpose. The background to closed captioning explains its role for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, including information beyond spoken dialogue. Creators should keep that purpose in mind rather than viewing caption text only as a decorative layer.

A new layout within an existing set of video tools

X has introduced other video-editing options over recent months, so this refresh should not be mistaken for the first appearance of every tool shown in the interface. It continues the platform's effort to bring more preparation into the posting process.

We previously covered Grok's wider availability on X. That earlier announcement is useful context, but it does not establish the access rules for each video feature. For creators working across platforms, Meta's additions to Edits offer another example of editing tools moving closer to distribution.

The sensible test is a short preview: review the wording, check that captions remain readable over the footage, and watch the clip once with sound off. A simpler composer can reduce the number of steps, but it cannot do that final editorial check on a creator's behalf.
