An invitation to a WhatsApp event will no longer require every guest to have WhatsApp. Meta announced the change on November 5: people can follow a shared link and RSVP without installing the app. The rollout is due to reach users over the next few weeks.

The host can add a cover photo and send out a link. A new Events Home, reached through Settings and then Events, gathers past and upcoming plans in one place. It includes invitations received as well as events the user has created.
Saying yes comes before seeing the address
The announcement makes a useful distinction for hosts sharing that link. A guest without an account can see the invitation, but the event address appears only after they RSVP. Meta also says phone numbers are not shown to guests a person does not know.
Take a dinner with friends who use different messaging apps. The organiser could send the same invitation link through their existing conversations. Someone who is not on WhatsApp could still answer, without the extra exchange of installation instructions. The host would then have those responses attached to the event rather than scattered through several chats.
A place for the plan, beyond the conversation
Events themselves are older than this release. WhatsApp’s May 2024 Communities announcement introduced them for organising group gatherings. What changes now is the reach of the invitation and the dedicated home for managing it. Custom reminders and the option to add a plus one are also included in the update.
The messaging service has been opening individual activities beyond account holders: guest calls are another example. For a continuing conversation, group voice chats do a different job. These event links give the gathering its own details and RSVP, so planning need not depend on everyone joining the same chat.
